Are you a professional artist with a desire to work with kids? Are you passionate about social justice issues, equity and inclusion? Cambridge Art Galleries is looking to hire local artists for the ArtsSmarts program for school-based projects in spring 2019.

The purpose of the ArtsSmarts Waterloo Region program is to foster equity and inclusion in classrooms across Waterloo Region. As an ArtsSmarts artist, you will collaborate with a classroom teacher to design a project around a core curriculum subject (i.e. – math, geography, history, English), with an equity and inclusion theme utilizing your creative and artistic skills to deliver the subject matter. You will be matched with an appropriate teacher partner on our orientation day. ArtsSmarts Waterloo Region works with students from kindergarten to grade 12 in public schools across Waterloo Region.

What can you expect as an ArtsSmarts artist?

- You set the schedule for your project along with your teacher partner which means it can fit around your other commitments. Projects will happen between February 19 – May 14, 2019.

- You must be able to attend our orientation day on February 14th  from 9am-3pm and our wrap up day on May 15 from 9am-11:30am

- You will be paid for your time and expertise at a rate of $25/hour for planning time (which includes orientation and wrap up day) and $50/hour for classroom teaching time up to our day rate of $250/day.

Working artists of all disciplines that live in Waterloo Region are welcome to express their interest in becoming an ArtsSmarts artist. We especially want to hear from artists of colour, Indigenous artists, deaf, blind and/or artists with learning differences, newcomers, artists who identify as LGBT2SQ+, emerging artists, low income artists, and other artists who are experts of their own personal experiences. To express your interest, please fill out the following form.

Expressions of interest are due by December 21, 2018 at 5pm. All submissions will be reviewed by a committee. Artists will be notified by January 25th, 2019.

Please note that successful applicants will be expected to produce a Vulnerable Persons Record Check (available through Waterloo Region Police Services) on orientation day.

Cambridge Art Galleries is an equal opportunity employer. If you require assistance with your application or accommodations to participate in the process, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.
